Planning Center is great at worship planning, and the churches that use it are right to keep it for Sunday. But if you’re stretching it to run conferences and fundraisers, you’re fighting a tool built for a different job.

FIRST, WHAT WE’RE NOT CLAIMING

Planning Center’s worship planning is built on things we do not have: a song library an item links to, arrangements and keys, CCLI reporting, and the Music Stand add-on. Its volunteer scheduling is deep in a way a small team cannot match quickly — not any one of its parts, but having all of them and having them agree with each other. Their People database is free for everyone, with unlimited people, lists, workflows and forms. If Sunday services are your whole world, stay put; you’re well served.

But the event side is where it strains: the live controller has two verbs, and no item can be pinned to a clock time. That’s the side we built.

Extend, trim or cut from the show screen
Planning Center
NoTheir live controller has no extend, trim or cut: it moves between items with Start, Next and Prev. A hand-edited countdown changes that one number and leaves the projections and the plan untouched. Change an item’s length in their plan instead, and a running session picks it up within seconds, with no refresh.

YesExtend or trim the running block by one or five minutes, or cut a block from tonight’s running order, and every block after it is re-projected, with a chip on each one that has moved.
Alerts the crew can acknowledge

NoChat, and chat is all there is. Nothing can be raised as an alert, and nobody can confirm they saw it.

Every Planning Center claim above was checked against Planning Center’s own product and its own documentation on 15 September 2026. Where their product changes, this table is wrong until we check it again.
