Resetting your password, and other ways back in

Password reset is self-serve, and the whole thing takes about as long as reading this paragraph. Click “Forgot?” beside the password field on the sign-in page, type your work email, and press “Send reset link.” The mail comes from a Planet Events no-reply address; open the link, choose a new password, and you are signed in.

The confirmation screen is the same for everyone, on purpose

After you press the button you see “Check your email,” whether or not the address you typed has an account. We do not tell the page which addresses exist, because a page that did would tell anyone else too. So if nothing arrives, the first thing to check is the address itself: it has to be the one your account was created with, which is the one your invite or sign-up used.

The button says “Sending…” for a moment longer than you might expect. That is deliberate too, and it is not your connection.

Opening the link

Open it in the same browser you asked from. A reset link works once, it expires, and it is tied to the browser that requested it, so a link opened on a different device, or opened twice, lands on “This link no longer works.” That screen has a button to send a fresh one, and the fresh one will work; nothing about your account is broken.

If instead you see “We could not check your link,” that is a connection problem, on our side or yours, and not a verdict on the link. Try again from the same page.

When the link is good you get “Set a new password.” At least eight characters, typed twice. Save it and you are signed in on the spot, with a button to your events. Use the new password next time.

Nothing arrived

Check spam, then check the address you typed against the one your account uses. Then try once more. Asking repeatedly does not help: after a few requests for the same address in an hour, further requests are dropped quietly, and the screen looks exactly the same, so the fourth attempt in a row is the one that goes nowhere.

If it still has not arrived, write to us from planetevents.io/contact with the address you are using, and we will sort it out by hand. Say if your event is close; that moves you up the queue.

Other dead ends at sign-in, and the way past each

“That link did not sign you in.” A sign-up confirmation or sign-in link was opened on a second device, or opened twice. It is not broken and neither is your password. Sign in below it with your email and password; if you were following an invite, sign in first and then open the invite link again.

“This account’s email address hasn’t been confirmed yet.” You created the account and never opened the confirmation mail. Find it and open its link, then sign in. If it never came, the “Never got it?” link beside the message writes to us.

“That email and password don’t match an account.” One sentence for every credential problem, and a reset link is the fastest way past it.

“We couldn’t reach the sign-in service.” That is on us, not your password. Check planetevents.io/status, wait a little, and try again.

“Too many sign-in attempts.” Wait a minute, then try again.

Two things worth knowing

There is no “change password” field in Settings yet. If you know your password and want a different one, the reset link is the way, and it works the same whether you are locked out or not.

Google sign-in is built and switched off. Until it is on, email and password is the only way in, and it is the way the reset flow assumes.
